Softball Continues Road Trip at Creighton This Weekend

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball squad (13-33, 4-10 BIG EAST) will continue its road trip to Creighton this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska for a three-game BIG EAST series. GU will take on the top-ranked BIG EAST team in a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday and then a single contest on Sunday scheduled for noon.

The Blue & Gray went 0-3 last weekend against Villanova in a BIG EAST series contest. Offensively, senior Theresa Kane (Mystic, Conn./Stonington) led the Hoyas with a total of five hits against the Wildcats, including her second triple of the season. In the circle, sophomore Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) recorded a combined total of 12 strikeouts in two games.

For the season, Kane leads GU with a .344 batting average and is 53-for-145 at the plate, tied for third in the BIG EAST in hits. She is 14-for-19 in stolen bases. Junior Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md./Northern) leads the team with 27 RBIs and seven home runs. Freshman Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda) has a team-high of 13 doubles and ranks first in the conference in the category. Additionally, Pacha leads the BIG EAST with 135 strikeouts on the season.

Creighton (22-13, 7-2 BIG EAST) has won 11 out of its last 14 games. The Bluejays swept Seton Hall this past weekend and went 2-0 against the University of Missouri-Kansas City in a midweek doubleheader. Creighton is led by senior Sam Crowley, who bats .400 at the plate, ranking second in the BIG EAST. She leads the team with 27 RBIs, five homers, two doubles and two triples. Crowley went 8-for-16 last week with seven RBIs and five runs in a total of five games. Additionally, the Bluejays have four batters ranked among the top 10 in the conference in on base percentage.

Following this weekend's BIG EAST matchup, the Blue & Gray will host Seton Hall at Nationals Youth Academy for its final conference series of the regular season. Live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
