Marrocco Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

April 9, 2018

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior Nick Marrocco (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) was named the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The accolade is the sixth in Marrocco's career and the second this season.

In addition, sophomore Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Georgetown (7-3) snapped a three-game losing streak and picked up its first BIG EAST win with a dominating defensive showing over visiting Providence over the weekend. In an 8-4 victory, Marrocco led the Hoyas with a 12-save performance in goal, including six in the third quarter. His dozen saves matched a season high and it was the fourth time he notched double-digit saves this campaign. Georgetown held the Friars to just one second-half goal and to scoreless droughts of 15:40 and 20:48 spanning the final three periods.

A week after dropping to second on the NCAA active career leader list in saves, he returned to the top spot following the win with 591 during his tenure on the Hilltop

Carraway led the Blue & Gray with four goals against Providence. He has previously been named to the honor roll twice this season and was named the Attack Player of the Week on March 12.

Georgetown returns to action as it hosts No. 9/10 Loyola Maryland to the Hilltop on Tuesday, April 10.
