WASHINGTON – Kendall Mulligan has been named as the head coach of the Georgetown University women's rowing team, as announced by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics
Lee Reed on Monday. Mulligan will begin her duties on Monday, July 16, 2018.
"Kendall is an up-and-coming head coach who has already proven to be an effective leader and mentor for her student-athletes," said Reed. "Coming from Franklin & Marshall, she brings to Georgetown an understanding of how motivated athletes learn and best thrive in a competitive, athletic and academic environment."
Mulligan comes to the Hilltop following four seasons as the head coach and director of rowing at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Tabbed the interim head coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2014, she was elevated to head coach at the conclusion of the 2015 spring season. Mulligan also spent time as a United States Women's Junior National Team Development Camp assistant coach in 2017 and served on the NCAA Women's Rowing Committee as well as the championship committee of the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC).
"I am looking forward to coming on board with the Georgetown University women's rowing team as its head coach and being part of such a strong legacy of academic excellence and competitive success," Mulligan said. "With the program coming off a competitive year we shall be looking forward to growing on and off the water in order to achieve new heights. It will be a privilege to be involved with such a prestigious institution."
Mulligan guided the Diplomats to national prominence, including a No. 15 ranking in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Poll during the 2017 campaign and back-to-back second place finishes at the MARC Championship in 2016 and 2017. Under her watch, 25 rowers garnered All-MARC honors, 34 were named Academic All-MARC and she coached just the second CRCA All-American in program history in 2016.
In addition to her success on the women's side, Mulligan also led the men's team to a fourth-place showing at the 2018 MARC's.
Mulligan graduated magna cum laude from Washington (Md.) College in 2012 with a degree in art history. She was a four-year member of the women's rowing team, twice earning MARC All-Conference recognition and three-straight CRCA Scholar Athlete honors as well as a trio of MAAC All-Academic honors. She led the Shorewomen to conference championships in 2009 and 2011 as well as an appearance in the NCAA National Championship Regatta.
