WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team graduated three seniors last spring who are all playing professionally overseas.
Rachel Corboz (C'18) has joined her older sister, Daphne Corboz (C'15), to play for FC Fleury 91 in France, while
Elizabeth Wenger (MSB'18) signed with FF Lugano 1976 in Switzerland and
Chloe Knott (C'18) joined the Durham Women FC in England.
The three former standout athletes at Georgetown were able to take some time out of their busy schedules to reflect on what it meant to play soccer at Georgetown and what it now means to play professionally.
GUHoyas: What have you been up to since graduating from Georgetown in the spring?
Rachel Corboz: After graduating in the spring, I was able to spend time with my friends and family at my home in New Jersey for a couple of months before going off to France in the beginning of July to continue my soccer career.
Elizabeth Wenger: I've been catching up with friends, spending time with family, and preparing to move abroad.
Chloe Knott: I took some time off with my family to do a bit of traveling around the United States. I took them to see New York City, Boston and Miami which was cool because it was the first time they've been to any of those places, so we did all the touristy things (Broadway shows, etc.). During June, I was just training hard because I started preseason in the UK for the FA WSL 2 team Durham Ladies on July 3.
GUHoyas: What will you be doing within the next year?
RC: This next year I will be playing professional soccer in France's first division for a team called FC Fleury. I am excited to continue to pursue my dream and my passion while living abroad.
EW: I will be playing soccer in Switzerland for a team called Football Femminile Lugano and studying Italian for the coming year.
CK: The season starts in August so my team will start playing competitive games in the FA WSL2 league and Continental Cup. I am also on a one-year scholarship to study my masters at Durham University. The program that I am studying is developmental psychopathology (M.Sc.). The soccer season and my classes will finish in May next year and then I plan to head home to New Zealand for a little bit to finish my dissertation and plan the next move!
GUHoyas: What was your fondest memory at Georgetown?
RC: My fondest memory at Georgetown would have to be the friendships that I made while on the women's soccer team. I have met some of my lifelong best friends and being able to do so while all sharing the same love for soccer was amazing. Making it to the College Cup in 2016 and winning the BIG EAST Championship in 2017 were some of the many fondest memories at Georgetown.
EW: Oh goodness, I'm not sure I can choose just one. Some that would make the list would have to be beating West Virginia at WVU my freshman year, the overtime win against Rutgers or the regular season win against UVA my junior year, playing in the semis of the NCAA tournament, and winning our BIG EAST Championships.
CK: My fondest memory was winning and celebrating our 2016 BIG EAST Tournament final. Even though we won it the next year, the 2016 win felt incredible after all the hard work we had put in to make sure we won the tournament at home and made history at Georgetown. It was really just amazing to celebrate with everyone at Georgetown and all the people who had supported us.
The Georgetown women's soccer squad will kick off the 2018 season on August 17 at 5 p.m. to take on Georgia in Blacksburg, Virginia as part of the Virginia Tech Tournament.
