The Hoyas are coming off of a 1-0 shutout against George Washington on Thursday night. GU scored in the 72nd minute as junior Carson Nizialek (Chantilly, Va. / Freedom) sought out senior Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.J. / Central Regional) at the net who snuck the ball in to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead. This marked Carolan's first goal of the season and Nizialek's third assist. The Blue & Gray outshot George Washington, 12-9, and took six corners to GW's four. Senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) tallied five saves in the clean sheet, which all occurred in the second half.

On Monday, graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts last week against then-No. 11 Duke and Yale. Georgetown moved into the No. 11 position in the national rankings this week after entering the poll at No. 15 a week prior.

The Mountaineers, who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, are coming off of a 3-0 shutout against Xavier this past Thursday. Prior to Thursday's match, West Virginia was on a three-game tie streak. Against the Musketeers, West Virginia took the 1-0 lead with four minutes left in the first half. The team scored its last two goals in the final 15 minutes of play. Addison Clark, Lois Joel and Issy Sibley each contributed a goal.

This is the 21st meeting between Georgetown and West Virginia, with the Mountaineers leading the all-time series, 14-4-2. The last time the two schools met was during the 2017 season opener when the then-No. 5 Hoyas fell to the then-No. 1 Mountaineers, 1-0.
