No. 10 Women’s Soccer Travels to No. 25 Princeton Thursday

WASHINGTON – The No. 10 Georgetown women's soccer team (5-0-2) hits the road to Princeton, New Jersey on Thursday to take on the No. 25 Princeton Tigers (5-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sherrard Field at the Class of 1952 Stadium. Live stats and video will be available on www.GUHoyas.com.
 
GU went 1-0 last week, defeating George Mason, 2-1, with a pair of goals in the second half. Senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) tied the game for GU, 1-1, in the 58th minute off of a rebound, tallying her third goal of the season. Graduate student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) scored the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute, giving the Blue & Gray a 2-1 lead. This marked Carusa's fourth goal this season.
 
On Monday, Carusa was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, her second nod of the season and Georgetown's fourth-straight week being recognized by the BIG EAST.
 
Carusa leads the team with nine points on the season, including four goals and an assist. She has scored a goal in three of Georgetown's last four contests. The forward is followed by Farrell with three goals on the season. Junior Carson Nizialek (Chantilly, Va. / Freedom) ranks first on the team in the assist category with three. Senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) leads the NCAA Division I active career list in shutouts with 36, ranks sixth in the nation in GAA (0.184) and is tied for first in save percentage (0.963). The goalkeeper ranks 15th in the country in shutouts with four this season. Farrell places seventh in the country in shots on goal per game (2.71). As a team, the Blue & Gray is 10th in the NCAA in save percentage (0.914) and 17th in GAA (0.403).
 
The Tigers went 2-0 last week, defeating Hofstra on Sunday, 2-1, and shutting out Rider last Thursday, 2-0. Princeton has defeated four out of its six opponents this season in shutouts. Mimi Asom leads the team with 12 points, including six goals, and has scored in all but one game. She is currently tied for fifth nationally in goals per game at 1.0 and 11th in total goals.
 
This will be the first meeting between Georgetown and Princeton.
 
Following Thursday's match, the Blue & Gray will host Columbia on Sunday, September 16 at Shaw Field at 1 p.m. to wrap up nonconference play. Live stats, as well as a webcast featuring Monika Moore, will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
