No. 10 Georgetown Hosts Columbia on Sunday to Wrap Up Nonconference Schedule

WASHINGTON – The No. 10 Georgetown women's soccer team (6-0-2) will host Columbia (3-3-1) on Sunday afternoon at Shaw Field to wrap up GU's nonconference slate. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats, as well as a webcast featuring Monika Moore, will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

Georgetown defeated No. 25 Princeton, 2-1, on Thursday evening at Sherrard Field at the Class of 1952 Stadium in overtime on a penalty kick taken by graduated student Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford). The Hoyas had a 1-0 lead entering the second half thanks to senior Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall), who scored in the 24th minute with the assist from junior Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda-Chevy Chase). The Tigers tied the game, 1-1, in the second half and forced the two teams into overtime. Carusa scored the game-winning goal three minutes into overtime on a penalty kick after Farrell was fouled while taking a shot within the 18-yard box.

On Monday, Carusa was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, her second nod of the season and Georgetown's fourth-straight week being recognized by the BIG EAST.

Carusa leads the team with 11 points on the season, including five goals and an assist. She has scored a goal in four of Georgetown's last five contests. The forward is followed by Farrell with four goals on the season. Junior Carson Nizialek (Chantilly, Va. / Freedom) ranks first on the team in the assist category with three. Senior goalkeeper Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) currently leads the NCAA Division I active career list in shutouts with 36, ranks sixth in the nation in GAA (0.184) and is tied for first in save percentage (0.963). The goalkeeper ranks 15th in the country in shutouts with four this season. Farrell places seventh in the country in shots on goal per game (2.71). As a team, the Blue & Gray sits 10th in the NCAA in save percentage (0.914) and 17th in GAA (0.403).

The Lions sit 3-3-1 on the season after falling to Hofstra on Thursday evening, 2-0. Columbia is led by mostly underclassmen, as sophomore Gracie Wall and freshman Mallaika Tomar lead the squad this season. Wall has recorded two goals and two assists this year, while Tomar has tallied a goal and four assists.

Sunday's match will be the fourth meeting between the two schools and the Hoyas lead the all-time series, 1-0-2. The last time they met was during the 2012 campaign when Georgetown recorded a shutout against Columbia, 3-0.

Following the match, the Blue & Gray will open up BIG EAST play next Sunday at St. John's in Queens, New York. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Monika Moore calling the action. Live stats for the game can be found at www.GUHoyas.com.
