WASHINGTON – Senior forward
Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. She helped keep the No. 10 Georgetown women's soccer team (7-0-2) unbeaten with a pair of wins against No. 25 Princeton and Columbia. Farrell totaled five points off of two goals and an assist, tying with teammate
Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda- Chevy Chase) for the most points in the BIG EAST last week.
Farrell scored the first goal in each match last week. Against Princeton, the forward put the Blue & Gray on the board in the 24th minute, giving GU a 1-0 lead going into the second half until the Tigers scored and forced the teams into overtime. Farrell was fouled in the six-yard box three minutes into overtime, resulting in a penalty kick taken by graduate student
Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif./ Del Norte / Stanford) to seal the win.
On Sunday, the Hoyas shut out the Lions, 4-0, and Farrell recorded three points in the victory. The senior gave Georgetown the lead in the 10th minute, before assisting junior
Carson Nizialek (Chantilly, Va. / Freedom) later in the contest. Farrell tallied nine shots between both matches.
The senior ranks second on the team with 11 points off of five goals and an assist. This is her weekly award this season and GU's fifth-straight week being recognized by the league. Farrell was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in August and was selected to the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The Blue & Gray will open up BIG EAST play on Sunday at St. John's in Queens, New York. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Monika Moore calling the action. Live stats for the game can be found at www.GUHoyas.com.
