WASHINGTON – Senior goalkeeper
Arielle Schechtman (Del Mar, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day / UCLA) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. She recorded her sixth shutout of the season on Sunday in a 3-0 victory at St. John's, helping the No. 10 Hoyas advance to 8-0-2 on the season. Additionally, senior forward
Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her two goals against the Red Storm.
Schechtman recorded six saves against St. John's in the BIG EAST opener, with three in each half. She played all 90 minutes in goal, not allowing the Red Storm to find a way past her. The senior holds the all-time shutout record at Georgetown with 38. This is her third nod to the BIG EAST honors this season and the Blue & Gray's sixth-straight week being recognized by the league.
Farrell had a pair of goals against the Red Storm, giving GU a 1-0 lead with a late first half goal after being sought out by graduate student
Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford). She scored another goal in the 80th minute, making the final score 3-0. Farrell recorded five shots against St. John's.
Farrell was recognized last week as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. She currently leads the team with 15 points from seven goals and an assist. Farrell was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team in August and was selected to the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The Blue & Gray will host DePaul on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Shaw Field. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Monika Moore calling the action. Live stats for the game can be found at www.GUHoyas.com.
