WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Men's Soccer Head Coach
Brian Wiese announced the addition of Paul Rothrock (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside School / Notre Dame) to the 2019 roster on Thursday. Rothrock comes to the Hilltop after two seasons at the University of Notre Dame, he will join the team this spring in offseason training.
"We know Paul from his being at our camp as a high school player, and we are excited for how he will fit in with our existing group of players both on and off the field," said Wiese. "He is an exciting attacking player that has benefitted from his time at Notre Dame, working with some of the top coaches in Bobby Clark and Chad Riley while there."
At Notre Dame, the midfielder appeared in 13 matches as a sophomore with three starts to his credit before being sidelined with an injury. In his 13 appearances, he managed a goal in a 3-0 victory at Northwestern. He did not see game action as a freshman but was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. That season, he was called into the U-18 U.S. Men's National Team Camp and appeared in games against Russia and Belgium. In two seasons, the Fighting Irish made two NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the quarterfinals in 2018.
Rothrock was a three-year letterwinner at Lakeside School as the team won three Metro Championships. He was a two-time all-state selection with 33 career goals and 43 assists. He also competed in basketball and cross country. On the club side, he played with Seattle United until his final season where he competed with Seattle Sounders FC scoring 10 goals during the 2016-17 Academy season. He made two national finals appearances and his teams won two regional titles, two state championships and the Dallas Cup where he was named to the Dallas Cup Best XI.
Off of the playing field, Rothrock was a finalist for the World Scholar's Cup. He also volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul food bank and L'arche Seattle, a home and community for the mentally handicapped.
He will join five incoming freshmen as the Hoyas boast six newcomers on the 2019 roster.
Georgetown went 13-5-3 this past season. Along the way, the Hoyas claimed the 2018 BIG EAST Championship after entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed and earned an automatic NCAA Tournament berth with the No. 13 overall seed. It marked the third championship in four years for the Blue & Gray as well as the third tournament championship in program history.
