WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's tennis team opened the 2019 season against VCU in Richmond on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas fell to the Rams 7-0 in their season opener.
The Hoyas dropped the doubles point to the Rams after VCU secured two of three matches. Sophomore
Luke Ross (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) and sophomore partner
Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif. / San Marino) defeated Amantegui and Stable in a 7-6(4) battle while senior
Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) and sophomore
Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) dropped the 7-6(5) tiebreaker against the team of Noren and Torre Martin.
The Rams swept the Hoyas in singles play with Lee and Chen taking their opponents to three sets apiece. Lee dropped the final set 6-2 after winning the second set 6-3, while Chen won his first set 6-4 but lost the third, 12-10.
The Hoyas are back on the court on Friday, Jan. 25 as they take on the Marquette Golden Eagles in Milwaukee. The BIG EAST matchup is scheduled for noon.
