WASHINGTON – Georgetown University sophomore diver
Riley Fujioka (Los Altos, Calif. / Los Altos) has been named the BIG EAST Female Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The award recognizes Fujioka's efforts in GU's dual meet at Drexel last weekend.
Fujioka swept the two diving events during Saturday's meet, winning both the 1- and 3-meter dives. She broke the Georgetown record in the 1-meter dive, recording a score of 293.93 in her 10 dives to win the event. She also won the 3-meter dive with a score of 282.07. Fujioka now holds both Georgetown diving records, having set the 3-meter record last year as a freshman.
This is the first career weekly award for Fujioka and the sixth of the season for the Hoyas. Last week, sophomores
Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass. / Central Catholic) and
Belinda Donohoe (Cambridge, Mass. / Concord Carlisle) swept the honors, while Carbone, junior
Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and sophomore
Phoebe Slaughter (Darien, Conn. / Darien) were all selected earlier this season.
The Hoyas wrap up the regular season with a two-day, tri-meet with BIG EAST opponents Providence and Seton Hall in South Orange, New Jersey. In GU's final tuneup before the BIG EAST Championships (Feb. 20-23), the diving portion of the meet will take part on Friday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m., while the swimming will begin on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
