Women’s Basketball Travels to St. John’s and Seton Hall This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's basketball team will hit the road with a pair of BIG EAST Conference matchups on the weekend slate.  The Hoyas will face the St. John's University Red Storm on Friday at 7 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.  The squad will then travel to Seton Hall University for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.  Both games will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
 
Graduate student guard Dorothy Adomako (Midlothian, Va. / Cosby) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the league announced on Monday. It was the sixth weekly honor for the Hoyas this season and the fifth nod to the honor roll as well as the fourth accolade for Adomako and the 12th of her career.
 
The senior tied for the league's single-game scoring high this week with a career-best 28 points in Georgetown's 68-63 win over Villanova on Saturday.  Adomako and senior Dionna White (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill) scored a combined 53 points in the win. Adomako also contributed 11 rebounds to her 28 points and shot 50 percent (11 for 22) from the field. White contributed 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. She also shot 50 percent throughout the game (6 for 12) and was 11 for 13 from the free throw line.
 
GU has three players averaging double digits as White and Adomako lead the team with 15.9 and 15.4 ppg, respectively.  Graduate student Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown / Virginia) is third with 10.9 ppg.  White and Adomako are both averaging 7.7 rpg to lead the squad, White has a team-best 50 assists on the season as well as 42 steals, and Venson has 43 helpers to her credit.  Junior forward Anita Kelava (Zagreb, Croatia / Croatian National Team / Maine) has 32 blocks to lead the squad, Adomako is second with 29.  The squad currently holds a +2.4 margin in turnovers.
 
Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in blocks with 5.0 bpg.  White ranks fourth in the league in scoring, while Adomako sits at fifth and Venson at 25th.  White is fifth in rebounding and Adomako is sixth.  Kelava is second in the league in blocks per game and Adomako sits right behind her at third.
 
St. John's is 8-10 on the season and 1-6 in league play.  The Red Storm is coming off of a pair of road losses last weekend falling to then-No. 24 DePaul 73-64, and then-No. 14 Marquette 83-73.  The team's lone conference victory is a 76-57 win over Xavier.  Three players are averaging in double figures as Qadashah Hoppie leads the way with 12.3 ppg and Alisha Kebbe is second with 10.9 ppg.  Akina Wellere rounds out the top three at 10.7 ppg.
 
The Hoyas are 28-34 all-time against the Red Storm and 11-8 on the road.  In recent years, the Red Storm has had GU's number with the last Georgetown victory coming during the 2013-14 season.  Last year, the Blue & Gray dropped a pair of contests during the regular season.  The Hoyas fell 64-41 in Queens, N.Y., and then lost by a score of 71-63 at McDonough Arena.
 
The Pirates (12-6, 4-3 BIG EAST) are back at Walsh Gym after their biggest win of the season, a top-25 road upset at then-No. 24 DePaul on Sunday afternoon.  Five different Pirates scored in double-figures against the Blue Demons, led by Shadeen Samuels with 18.  The win over a ranked foe was the first for The Hall since Jan. 29, 2016.  The squad has three players averaging in double figures as Samuels leads the way with 17.1 ppg.  She also boasts 9.2 rpg.
 
Georgetown is 28-36 all-time against the Pirates with a mark of 9-18 on the road.  The squads split last year as GU fell 70-65 in New Jersey before coming back with a 71-52 victory at McDonough Arena.  In the road loss, Venson led the way with 28 points while White led with way in the victory with 21 to her credit.
