WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis team came out short in the 4-3 decision against a tough BIG EAST opponent on Saturday afternoon. The DePaul Blue Demons went 2 for 3, claiming the doubles point, which proved to be a pivotal point in the final decision.
The Blue Demons took an early advantage in the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. At No. 1, the duo of
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Odrup Gymnasium) and
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley High School) were defeated by their opponents 6-1 while
Renee Repella (Landsale, Pa. / Germantown Academy) and
Brooke Murphy (Westfield, N.J. / The Pingry School) fell to the Blue Demons 6-0.
In singles, the Hoyas won three matches, two in straight sets. Goodson defeated Kuzmenkova in a come-from-behind win at No. 2, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4). At No. 4, De Santis won in straight sets against her opponent 6-3, 6-3.
Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md. / Holton Arms School) picked up the final point for the Hoyas on the day at No. 6, winning 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (14-12).
GU is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 31 as they take on the Maryland Terrapins at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
