WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's and women's basketball teams hosted the annual Hoya Madness presented by Domino's celebration on Friday night tipping off the 2019-20 season. The event featured student performances, the presentation of the BIG EAST Presidents' Award and the introductions of the squads.
The free event was open to all Georgetown students, and some of those in attendance received Jordan brand t-shirts as well as light-up thunder sticks. For fans unable to attend, a live stream was available and archived at GUHoyas.com.
Attendees were treated to a performance by GU Jawani to kick off the show. Both the Georgetown cheerleaders and pep band performed later in the program. The event also featured a shooting contest with teams consisting of each class making four shots and a half court shot. The sophomores won resulting in a student winning free Domino's pizza for a year.
The women's team was introduced first as the players showed off their dance moves before Head Coach
James Howard came out to "Started From the Bottom" by Drake and "This is How We Do It" by Montel Jordan. His songs were selected from an Instagram poll.
After remarks from Howard, the men's players had their chance to dance through the smoke and lights giving the fans their first look at the 2019-20 squad. The introductions concluded with the most famous Hoya of all time, Head Coach
Patrick Ewing, beginning his third year on the Hilltop and entering the stage to "Money in the Grave" by Drake.
Ewing thanked the crowd for coming out and encouraged them to support both basketball teams this season.
The men's team will open the season on Nov. 6 at Capital One Arena against the Mount St. Mary's. The women open the season Nov. 5 at Davidson before hosting Richmond on Nov. 12 at McDonough Arena.
