WASHINGTON – Freshman Anna Leat was named both the BIG EAST Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Week on Monday after earning another pair of shutouts last week. This is Leat's second-straight week claiming the league's Freshman of the Week honors. Additionally, graduate student Amanda Carolan and senior Meaghan Nally earned spots on the Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts in both of the wins by the No. 11 Georgetown women's soccer team (9-1-2, 3-0-0).
Leat tallied five saves in road wins at Villanova and Providence last week. The freshman hasn't surrendered a goal in over three weeks, lowering her goal against average to 0.92. She led the Hoyas to their fifth-straight shutout and seventh overall.
Carolan matched the BIG EAST weekly high with five points in a 2-0 week for the Blue & Gray. The forward scored twice at Providence on Sunday, being credited with the game winner in the 4-0 victory, after assisting on junior Jenna Menta's game-winning goal at Villanova on Thursday.
Nally anchored a Hoya defense last week that limited its opponents to just five shots on goal. Georgetown outshot its foes 36-12, including 19-5 on target and stretched its wing streak to seven matches.
This is the seventh-straight week that the Hoyas have been recognized by the BIG EAST. All three players who earned conference honors this week also earned weekly honors last week.
The Blue & Gray will return to Shaw Field this week welcoming Xavier on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Creighton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
