WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team opens the 2018-19 campaign on Thursday when it welcomes Towson to the Hilltop for a dual meet. The meet will get underway at 5 p.m. at McCarthy Pool.

"We are really excited to get this season underway, and it is always exciting to start off at home. Coming off such a strong season last year, the team has been itching to get this year started. The last few weeks of practice have been very competitive as everyone already has set their sights on improving meet-by-meet and month-by-month."
SEASON AHEAD
- The Georgetown men finished second at the 2019 BIG EAST Championships, while the women placed third.
- The Hoyas return 19 student-athletes (12 women, 7 men) who earned All-BIG EAST honors last season, including nine who earned recognition in multiple events.
- The team will be led by four captains this year with Cristina Barrett and Lauren Rutledge from the women's squad and Henry Hollinshead and Jack Reichert from the men's side.
- Leavitt brought in 13 newcomers (7 women, 6 men) to the roster and the Hoyas added Megan Zarriello as a new assistant coach.
- Georgetown will have three meets at home this season. In addition to Towson on Saturday, the Hoyas will also host Fordham (Nov. 9) and Drexel (Jan. 25) at McCarthy Pool.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- Georgetown and Towson met last year in Baltimore as part of a tri-meet with James Madison. In dual meet scoring, the Hoya men fell to the Tigers 172-126, while the GU women came up short 199-100.
- On the men's side, Drew Carbone won both backstroke events and came in second in the 200-yard IM. Michael Wheeler won the 1,000-yard freestyle, and then came in second behind classmate Brett Sherman in the 500 freestyle, while Carson Temple also claimed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- Barrett picked up the GU women's only individual win as she touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
COMING UP NEXT
Following Thursday's meet, the Hoyas will be right back in action next week when they make the short trip to American University for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 18. Racing will start at 5 p.m.
