WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team will hit the road to face BIG EAST rival Villanova on Saturday at the Villanova Swim Complex. Competition is set to begin at noon.
LAST TIME OUT
- Georgetown swept its third-straight dual meet last Saturday at Davidson. The GU men came away with a 166-132 victory, while the Hoya women overcame a deficit in the final few races to win 149-145.
- On the men's side, the Blue & Gray won nine events on the day, highlighted by three individual victories. Drew Carbone won the 100- and 200-yard backstroke as well as the 200-yard IM. Connor Morikawa claimed both breaststroke events while Brett Sherman and Michael Wheeler also earned victories for GU.
- Gabriella Meringolo led the women's squad with two individual victories as she swept the 100- and 200-yard butterfly races. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Corey Moon touched the wall first while Cristina Barrett and Noelle Fimbres completed the podium sweep for the Hoyas. Belinda Donohoe also earned a victory for the Hoyas.
- On the diving board, Margaret Barnhorst won the 1-meter dive and Riley Fujioka came out victorious in the 3-meter. Elizabeth Miller came in second in both events.
- On Tuesday, Meringolo was named the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week for her performance against Davidson.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- The Hoyas hosted VU during the 2018-19 campaign when the GU men came away with a convincing 178-120 victory over Villanova, while the women's squad fell 196-103.
- On the men's side, Carbone and Wheeler each came away with a pair of individual victories. Carbone swept the 100- and 200-yard backstroke races for the third-consecutive meet. Wheeler took first in both distance events, winning the 1,000- and 500-yard freestyles, while Sherman came away with a win in the 400-yard IM.
- The GU men also swept the top three spots in both breaststroke events and capped off the win in the 400 freestyle relay.
- On the women's side, Alexandra Rieker came away with the Hoyas' only individual swimming victory as she touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke. Barrett took second in both distance freestyle events, while the Blue & Gray claimed second- and third-place finishes in three different events.

Following Saturday's meet, the Hoyas will welcome Fordham to the Hilltop for a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. at McCarthy Pool.
