WASHINGTON – For the third time this season, the Georgetown University swimming & diving team swept the BIG EAST weekly awards as sophomore
Michael Wheeler earned Male Athlete of the Week honors and freshman
Samantha Kim was named the Female Athlete of the Week. The awards recognize their performances in Georgetown's dual meet against Fordham on Saturday.
MICHAEL WHEELER
- Wheeler was one of five Hoyas to register multiple individual victories as Georgetown won 15-of-16 events to cruise past Fordham 219-79.
- He got things started with a victory by an extraordinary 25-second margin in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:32.33, which is the fastest in the BIG EAST this season.
- Wheeler completed the freestyle distance sweep with a win in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:35.05, a time that is tops in the conference by more than three seconds.
- He also swam the third leg in Georgetown's winning 400-yard freestyle relay team.
SAMANTHA KIM
- Kim led the women's squad with a pair of individual victories as the Hoyas lost a tight meet to a tough Fordham squad.
- She swept both breaststroke events, winning the 100 in a time of 1:06.72 which is the fourth-best time in the BIG EAST.
- Kim also touched the wall first in the 200 by nearly five seconds with a time of 2:22.14, which ranks second in the conference this season.
- She also came in third in the 200-yard IM and was on the second-place 200-yard medley relay team.
OF NOTE
- This is Georgetown's third sweep of weekly awards this season and the Hoyas have won eight of the 10 weekly awards in the five weeks they have competed this season.
- Eight different Hoyas have won BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors.
COMING UP NEXT
The Hoyas will take a weekend off before making the trip north to Boston for the Terrier Invite, hosted by Boston University. The three-day meet will take place Nov. 22-24.
