Women’s Basketball Travels to Pitt on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup against the Pitt Panthers at the Petersen Events Center.  The Hoyas are currently 0-2 on the young season, while the Panthers sit at a record of 1-1.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 51-49 heartbreaking loss to Richmond in the 2019-20 home opener on Tuesday evening at McDonough Arena.
  • Sophomore Nikola Kovacikova had a team-high 15 points along with five boards.
  • Junior Tatiana Thompson recorded 13 points and Brianna Jones rounded out the top-three scorers with seven and a team high of nine rebounds.
  • Anita Kelava managed to pull down seven and Graceann Bennett tallied five rebounds.
  • Both squads recorded 39 rebounds each and GU forced 16 turnovers. The Blue & Gray also managed nine steals.
  • Georgetown shot 31.1 percent (19 for 61), but allowed the Spiders 34.5 percent (19 for 55) shooting from the field.
  • This will be GU's second road test of the season after falling to Davidson in the season opener.
  • The Blue & Gray will play three nonconference home games this season with two in November and one in December.
 
About the Panthers
  • Pitt won its home opener on Monday as the squad downed Central Connecticut State 81-73.
  • Aysia Buggs scored a career-best 26 points, and Pitt came back from a 19-point first half deficit to pick up the victory.
  • In the season opener, the Panthers fell at Central Florida by a score of 74-58.
  • Pitt was selected 14th in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll with 41 points to sit above Wake Forest.
 
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 25-27 all-time against the Panthers and 10-16 on the road.
  • Last year, GU downed Pitt 70-41 at McDonough Arena in nonconference play.
  • The last meeting in Pittsburgh was a 72-70 Georgetown victory during the 2012-13 season.
  • That matchup was the final year that Pitt was a member of the BIG EAST Conference.
