WASHINGTON – The No. 19 Georgetown University women's soccer team led all BIG EAST teams with two major honors and seven total all-league certificates. Senior standouts
Paula Germino-Watnick and
Meaghan Nally clinched major conference awards, including Midfielder of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Germino-Watnick and Nally were also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and were joined by graduate student
Amanda Carolan on the list. Sophomore
Jenna Royson and freshman
Anna Leat earned spots on the second team while Leat and
Julia Leas were named to the All-Freshman Team.
The Hoyas finished the regular season 12-3-3 overall and second in the BIG EAST with a league mark of 6-1-2.
Paula Germino-Watnick
Midfielder of the Year; All-BIG EAST First Team
- The senior was unanimously selected for both awards.
- She started every game this season and totaled 12 points off five goals and two assists in BIG EAST play, while going for 26 points off nine goals and eight assists overall.
- Her eight assists rank second in the BIG EAST behind teammate Boo Jackson.
- Germino-Watnick is the fourth different Hoya to be tabbed BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year.
- Earlier this season, she was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and earned a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
- This is the second-straight year that Germino-Watnick was named to the First Team.
Meaghan Nally
Defensive Player of the Year; All-BIG EAST First Team
- Nally was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
- She led an experienced back line that stepped up with a freshman in net, allowing just 5.9 shots per game in BIG EAST play and just 6.8 over 18 games overall.
- Nally is the first back-to-back BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year since St. John's Georgia Kearney-Perry did so in 2014 and 2015.
- This is the second-straight year that Nally was named to the First Team. She was named to the Second Team in 2017.
- Additionally, Nally was selected as the Preseason All-BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year prior to the season and joins Germino-Watnick on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
Amanda Carolan
All-BIG EAST First Team
- The graduate student was one of four players unanimously selected to the First Team.
- She leads the squad with 27 points from 10 goals and seven assists and tallied 14 points in league play off five goals and four helpers.
- This is the second time Carolan has been named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. In 2016, she was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.
Anna Leat
All-BIG EAST Second Team; BIG EAST All-Freshman Team
- Leat was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team.
- The New Zealand native started 15 games at goal this season with eight of those in BIG EAST play.
- She has a 0.990 GAA and a 0.712 save percentage and has made 37 saves in her rookie season.
- She has recorded six shutouts on the year, including four BIG EAST opponents, and has allowed 15 goals to get by her.
Jenna Royson
All-BIG EAST Second Team
- Royson joined Nally on the back line this season and helped her lead one of the strongest defensive teams in the country.
- The sophomore also contributed to the team on the offensive end, adding four goals and an assist on the year.
- She started in all 18 games this season as a defender and helped GU claim five BIG EAST shutouts. The Hoyas posted a 0.63 team goals against average and allowed just 23 corner kicks, with both marks ranking second in the conference.
Julia Leas
BIG EAST All-Freshman Team
- Leas was one of four rookies that were unanimously selected to the All-Freshman Team.
- She started in all 18 games for the Blue & Gray and scored the first goal of the season for GU.
- Leas is third on the team with 11 points from four goals and three assists and scored a pair of goals in BIG EAST play.
The Blue & Gray will head to Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday for the BIG EAST Semifinals. No. 2-seeded Georgetown will face sixth-seeded Providence at 8:30 p.m. ET.
