University Rally Celebrates Men’s Soccer Team’s First NCAA Championship Win

The Georgetown University men's soccer team made history on Sunday winning the 2019 NCAA Division I National Championship at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.  On Monday, the University celebrated with a Welcome Home Rally at the Healey Family Student Center.

The back-and-forth affair ended in a 3-3 tie after 110 minutes of play and then went to penalty kicks where GU got the 7-6 win as freshman goalkeeper Tomas Romero came up with the save to give the program its first national championship and the third in school history.

This season, the Hoyas set a new program record for wins in a season finishing the year with a mark of 20-1-3.  GU finished the season on a 17-game unbeaten streak dating back to September 24 at Louisville.  Senior captain Dylan Nealis was named the Defensive Most Outstanding Player, while junior captain Derek Dodson, junior Paul Rothrock, freshman Daniel Wu and sophomore Sean Zawadzki earned spots on the All-Tournament team.
