WASHINGTON – Senior standout
Paula Germino-Watnick of the Georgetown University women's soccer team was named a United Soccer Coaches First Team Scholar All-American while fellow senior
Meaghan Nally and graduate student
Amanda Carolan were named to the second team.
This is Nally's second-straight year being named a Scholar All-American. Additionally, this is the fourth time in six years that a Hoya was named a Scholar All-American, and Georgetown's second year in a row having a player earn the high honor. Carolan, Germino-Watnick and Nally join just four other Hoyas who have received this accolade.
To be named to the Scholar All-American Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout her career, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team.
Paula Germino-Watnick – First Team
- The senior ranked second on the squad this season with 26 points off of nine goals and eight assists.
- Germino-Watnick holds a 3.82 GPA while studying biology of global health at Georgetown.
- Along with being named a First Team Scholar All-American, she was also selected as a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American and earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team.
- Germino-Watnick was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team this year, as well as the Scholar All-Region First Team and was named All-ECAC.
- She was unanimously picked as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the league's first team.
- Earlier this season, Germino-Watnick was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch list.
Meaghan Nally – Second Team
- Nally led an experienced back line this season that stepped up and allowed just 7.1 shots per game from opponents and shut out 10 teams.
- The marketing major currently holds a 3.68 GPA.
- For the second year in a row, Nally was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team and to the Scholar All-Regional First Team.
- She was selected as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row and earned a spot on the conference's first team as well.
- The senior joined Germino-Watnick on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List earlier this year.
- The defender was named to the Senior CLASS Award Second Team and to the All-ECAC Team.
Amanda Carolan – Second Team
- The graduate student led the Blue & Gray this season with 29 points from a team-high 11 goals and seven assists.
- She holds a 3.62 GPA and is seeking her masters in applied intelligence in the Georgetown School of Continuing Studies.
- Carolan was a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection and was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
- She has earned numerous postseason awards, including being named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team, Scholar All-Regional Second Team and the All-ECAC Team.
The Blue & Gray finished the 2019 season 13-5-3 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the eighth-straight year. They reached the BIG EAST Championship game for the fourth year in a row.
