Georgetown Ranked No. 9 in Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University ranked No. 9 in the country in the Division I Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, which were released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) for the second time this academic year on Thursday.
 
The Hoyas ranked No. 9 nationally with 198.0 points. Georgetown is first among all BIG EAST Conference teams, with six institutions ranked, and leads all non-FBS teams.
 
This is the sixth-straight year Georgetown has been ranked among the top-25 teams in the country at this point of the year in the standings.  Last year, the Hoyas were No. 18 in the second ranking of the year.
 
The Hoyas were aided in their top-10 standing by earning 100 points from the men's soccer team won the university's third NCAA Championship and the program's first.  The women's soccer team added 25 points after earning an NCAA Tournament berth.
 
The men's cross country team also contributed 46 points after a 28th place showing at the NCAA Championship.  The women managed 27 points after sending individual qualifiers to the NCAA Championship.
 
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
 
The next Division I standings will be released Tuesday, Dec. 24.
