Women’s Basketball Closes out Nonconference Play at UMES

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will close out nonconference play on Saturday when the squad travels to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for a 2 p.m. matchup at Hytche Arena.  Georgetown is currently 2-8 on the season, while the Hawks are 3-8.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas are coming off of a heartbreaking 65-64 loss last weekend against Rider University. It was a close battle that the Broncs managed to pull out on their final possession.
  • Three Hoyas led the Blue & Gray with 12 points apiece as Brianna Jones, Marvellous Osagie-Erese and Taylor Barnes all contributed.  It marked a career best for Osagie-Erese.
  • Tatiana Thompson scored eight points with 11 boards to lead the Blue & Gray.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Rider 47-36, and both teams had 14 turnovers in the contest.
  • The Hoyas shot 31 percent (20-65) from the field and allowed the Broncs 44 percent (24-55) shooting in the game.
  • Barnes and Jones lead the team in scoring with 10.9 ppg apiece. 
  • Anita Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 6.9 rpg.
 
About the Hawks
  • UMES is 3-8 on the season and coming off of a 71-62 loss to Longwood University on Thursday evening.
  • Amanda Carney is the lone player in double figures as she is averaging 12.4 ppg to go along with a squad-best 5.3 rpg.
  • The team's three wins came against Wesley College (75-29), Greensboro College (65-48) and Mount St. Mary's (78-76) with all three victories happening at Hychte Arena.
  • Saturday will be the Hawks' home nonconference finale, the team will play Charlotte on the road on December 28 before beginning MEAC play.
 
UMES Series
  • Georgetown is an impressive 5-0 all-time against the Hawks with a mark of 1-0 on the road.
  • Last year at McDonough Arena, Georgetown won 74-55.
  • A trio of Hoyas led the team in double digit scoring Dorothy Adomako led the Blue & Gray with 18 points as well as 10 rebounds and Mikayla Venson added 17 points.  Nikola Kovacikova made her home debut with 13 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • The last meeting in Princess Anne, Md., was a 71-60 Georgetown win at the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign.
