WASHINGTON –Georgetown University women's soccer top defender Meaghan Nally was named to the 2019 Senior CLASS Award Second Team in NCAA Division I women's soccer. The annual award is chosen by a vote of Division I women's soccer coaches, national soccer media and fans. In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award was inspired by Duke men's basketball player Shane Battier and his decision to forego the NBA to remain in school all four years. Established in 2001, the award is presented in 10 NCAA sports and focuses on the total student-athlete, encouraging students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Nally was one of 10 DI women's soccer players selected for the award, five on each team. She is one of two BIG EAST schools that made the list, joined by Xavier's Samantha Dewey. Nally is the first Hoya in program history to earn this award.

The senior defender led an experienced back line this season that stepped up and allowed just 7.1 shots per game from opponents and shut out 10 teams. She was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight year and earned a spot on the conference's first team as well. Earlier this week, Nally was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Team for the second year in a row. She also earned a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List back in August.

The Hoyas finished the 2019 season 13-5-3 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the eighth-straight year.
