Georgetown Cross Country Honored with All-Academic Nods

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University cross country program picked up a trio of academic honors as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual list of all-academic teams and individual student-athletes on Thursday. Following another successful cross country season, one student-athlete was named to the all-academic team while the men's and women's team were both named all-academic.

In order to qualify for the individual honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish among the top 25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet. In total, there were 267 athletes named USTFCCCA All-Academic with a 156 honors going to the women and 111 to the men.

Junior Jack Van Scoter (Pasadena, Calif. / Flintridge Prep) earned the lone individual honor as he ran to a sixth-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship at Penn State, earning an individual berth to the NCAA Championships where he finished 64th overall.

To be named an all-academic team, an institution needed a cumulative team GPA of at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Overall, there were 427 teams that brought home all-academic honors. The Georgetown women earned the team academic honor for the ninth-consecutive season, going back to 2010.

The Hoyas are in the midst of the indoor track & field season and will return to the track next weekend, as the squad will travel to Geneva, Ohio for the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships. The action is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 22.
