<strong>WASHINGTON</strong> – The Georgetown University softball squad will continue its season this weekend in Las Vegas at the 2019 Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic, hosted by UNLV. The Hoyas will play five games over the course of three days that will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. EST against Seattle and BYU at 9:30 p.m. EST.<br />

The Blue & Gray will play another pair of games on Saturday beginning at noon EST against Utah Valley and again at 4 p.m. EST against the Rebels. The team will conclude the tournament on Sunday at 11 a.m. EST against the UC Davis Aggies<br />

Georgetown opened up the 2019 season last weekend going 1-3 overall in the Gardner-Webb University Tournament. The win came in the first game against local rival George Washington 7-2. Against the Colonials, sophomore
Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif. / Terra Linda) recorded three triples and three RBIs and junior
Katie Vannicola (Vienna, Va. / James Madison HS) took the nod in the circle and allowed two runs off of eight hits while striking out four.<br />

Freshman
Mae Forshey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) leads the Hoyas offensively, registering a .429 batting average with six hits, a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Jones and junior
Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del. / Red Lion Christian Academy) are tied for second on the team with a .385 average, five hits and four RBIs apiece, with four of Holiday's five hits being doubles. On Monday, Jones was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts.<br />

The Seattle Redhawks went 1-4 over the weekend in the Kajikawa Classic. The Redhawks recorded an 8-0 shutout against Weber State as pitcher Shianne Smith took the win. Seattle lost by no more than two runs in each of its losses throughout the tournament. Ally Choate leads the Redhawks with a .667 batting average after going 10 for 15 at the plate, including a double and a triple.<br />

BYU holds a 1-3 record after defeating No. 18 Baylor 4-3 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. Protecting a one-run lead with the bases loaded and only one out in the top of the seventh, BYU maintained its composure and finished off the win over Baylor. Rylee Jenson leads the Cougars with a .385 average to go along with her five hits, which includes a pair of doubles and four RBIs.<br />

Utah Valley is 3-2 after opening the season up in the 2019 Marucci Desert Classic. The Wolverines saw wins against North Dakota, Seton Hall and Southern Utah. In the circle, Devyn Cretz went 2-0 over the weekend and recorded 10 strikeouts in the 12.1 innings that she pitched. Offensively, Peyton Angulo leads the Wolverines with a .706 average and went 12 for 17 at the plate with four doubles and four RBIs. Lyndsay Steverson also contributed to the team with three doubles and two homers while tallying eight RBIs.<br />

The Rebels opened up their season in the same tournament as Utah Valley and shut out the Wolverines 9-0 in six innings. UNLV did not see any losses in the tournament, going a perfect 5-0 in the first weekend of action. Jenny Bressler pitched 15.2 innings and allowed seven runs off of 11 hits and struck out 13 batters. Offensively, Lauren Tycksen leads the team with a .625 average and is 10 for 16 at the plate. Tycksen recorded a double and a pair of triples to go along with five RBIs.<br />

UC Davis also went undefeated over the weekend in the NorCal Kickoff with a 3-0 record. The Aggies marked up a pair of wins against Montana as well as Santa Clara. The team is led offensively by Meghan Bradbury, who batted .667 and went 6 for 9 at the plate. She managed a double, triple and homer along with five RBIs.<br />

Following this weekend, the Blue & Gray will continue tournament play in the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida from Friday, Feb. 22 until Sunday, Feb. 24.<br />
