WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University men's tennis team (3-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) fell to James Madison University (6-2) in a 5-2 battle despite clinching the early doubles point.
In doubles, the duo of
Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) and
Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) gave the Hoyas some early momentum, winning at No. 2 6-2.
Andrew Rozanov (London, England / Westminster) and
Will Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) followed suit with a 7-6(1) win at No. 3 to put GU on the board 1-0 going into singles play. Rozanov and Sharton are now 2-0 as a pair in the 2019 campaign.
In singles, the Dukes tied it up early with a win from Damon Roberts over Rozanov 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.
Charlie Sharton continued his perfect outing with a win at No. 5, defeating his opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. With the win, Sharton improves to 2-2 this season. After the 2-1 GU lead, JMU secured four-straight matches to give the Dukes their sixth win of the season.
The Hoyas return to action on Friday, February 22 to take on Monmouth at the College Park Tennis Club. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m.
