Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team forced UC Davis (6-2) into extra innings on Sunday in the final game of the 2019 Boyd Gaming Rebel Classic, but fell short 5-4 in the eighth inning. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 2-7 on the young season.
Freshman
Mae Forshey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) had a team-high of three hits, including a double, one run and an RBI. Junior
Alexa Dolby (Round Hill, Va. / Woodgrove) brought in three RBIs for the Blue & Gray off of a triple and senior
Kelly Amen (Hillsborough, N.J. / Hillsborough) also landed a double.
The Aggies took an early lead in the first inning, but Forshey made it even at one in the third with a double, bringing in sophomore
Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif. / Terra Linda) to score.
After UC Davis landed a three-run homer in the fifth, Georgetown continued to battle and eventually tied it up 4-4 in the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Dolby tripled to right field and advanced all runners on base to score. Neither team could produce the winning run in the final inning, forcing extra innings.
It didn't take long for the winning run to occur as UC Davis scored in the top of the eighth off of a sacrifice fly to right field to advance an Aggie on third base to score.
The Aggies outhit the Hoyas 9-8 while neither team committed any errors.
The Blue & Gray will return to action next weekend in the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida. Live stats for the games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
