WASHINGTON – In an exciting day of racing that featured four broken records, the Georgetown University swimming & diving team climbed the rankings on the second day of the 2019 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships, presented by Jeep, on Thursday. The Hoya women leapt from sixth place to second while the GU men jumped past Villanova into first place. Racing took place at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York.

In the evening's final, Brett Sherman (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) and Wheeler provided the race of the night. Racing neck-and-neck throughout the entire 500 yards, Sherman outstretched Wheeler at the final wall by just .12 seconds, breaking Wheeler's record from earlier in the morning with a time of 4:23.63.

Sean Devlin (Framingham, Mass. / Wayland) tied the Georgetown record in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 20.42 seconds to claim silver.

The quartet of Jack Calderwood (Houston, Texas / Strake Jesuit College Prep), Devlin, Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C. / Fort Mill) and Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C. / Green Hope) raced to a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, capping off the evening in a time of 1:22.35.
