Hoyas Stumble Against Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Georgetown University baseball team hit a pair of home runs, but ultimately fell 7-4 to Campbell University on Saturday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 0-5 on the season while Campbell moves to 4-2.

Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) led the Hoyas with three hits and an RBI while Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) and Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington & Lee University) each hit their first home run in a Georgetown uniform.

Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla. / Venice) went 5.2 innings in his second start of the year. He allowed six runs on three hits and five walks while striking out five. Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing one run with one strikeout.

The Hoyas jumped on the board. Nelson opened up the scoring with a solo home run to right-center field in the top of the second inning. Ruedisili launched an opposite field homer in the third, a two-run blast, to give GU a 3-0 advantage.

Campbell answered back with a five-run bottom of the third to take the lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, three-straight walks loaded the bases with no outs. Davis looped a one-out RBI single into center, scoring Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) from third to cut the deficit to one, 5-4.

The Camels scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to push their lead to 7-4. The Hoyas put runners on in each of the last two innings but could not rally any closer.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com. Junior Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy / IMG Academy) will take the mound for the Hoyas.
