WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University men's tennis team was edged by Drexel 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 3-6 and the Dragons improve to 7-4.
In doubles,
Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif. / San Marino) and partner
Luke Ross (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) secured an early win, defeating their opponents in a decisive 6-1 win at No. 2. The duo is now 2-0 in the 2019 campaign.
The Dragons defeated
Carlos Grande (Miami, Fla. / Belen Jesuit) and
Andrew Rozanov (London, England / Westminster) 6-1 at No. 3 and clinched the doubles point at No. 1, defeating the duo of
Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) and
Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla. / The Benjamin School) 6-3.
In singles action, Rozanov tallied the first team point for the Hoyas, defeating Youssef Lahlou 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 and Chen followed suit with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over his opponent at No. 2. With the victory, Chen secured his 100th career win.
Drexel tied the contest at No. 1 as Sinan Orhon defeated Lee in a 7-6(3), 7-6(10) battle and took the lead at No. 4 against Ross in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Mark Militzer (Charleston, S.C. / Connections Academy) notched the Hoyas' final point of the day defeating Xandy Hammitt 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5. Gustav Wogen clinched the match for the Dragons defeating Grande in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The Hoyas will travel to Florida for a three game road swing and will face off against Barry University, Lynn University and The University of Texas at Arlington. The first matchup is scheduled for Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m. against Barry in Miami Shores.
