WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team is heading to Europe and will spend its nine-day spring break with an overseas trip from March 1-10. The tour will include stops in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. Throughout the trip, members of the squad will provide updates with blog posts on GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas kick things off on March 3 taking on Stade de Reims and then will meet FC Fleury the following day. The Blue & Gray will face K.A.A. Gent on March 5 and will round out the tour on March 8 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
During the team's meeting in France with FC Fleury, Georgetown will play against some familiar faces in Daphne Corboz (C'15) and
Rachel Corboz (C'18), who both play for the football club.
"Culturally, this is a wonderful opportunity to see four different countries in a short span of time: France, Belgium, Holland and Germany," said Head Coach
Dave Nolan. "Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne are incredible cities and Maastricht is a wonderful university city with a unique flavor."
The international trips have become a staple in the women's soccer program, with the 2019 trip being the fifth in Head Coach
Dave Nolan's 20 years at Georgetown. This year, the reigning BIG EAST Champions compiled the best parts of the team's trips from 2001 and 2007 into one to make it a packed 10-day adventure.
"From a soccer standpoint, the schedule gives us four extra games this spring, which is crucial, to start putting the foundations together for our team next fall," said Nolan. "It will also challenge us as we play top teams with different styles in different environments. Lastly, the chance to watch professional games in two of the top European leagues will give the team a sample of the passion that soccer generates overseas and that's a great experience. Off the field, this will help bring our team even closer together and let our new leadership emerge. It really promises to be an incredible trip on so many fronts."
