WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's track & field team has qualified for two events at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Alabama Birmingham, starting Friday, March 8. The Hoyas will have a quartet of runners in the distance medley relay (DMR) and one competitor in the 800-meter run.
The men's DMR team made up of All-American
Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic),
Lawrence Leake (Huntington, N.Y. / Huntington),
Ruach Padhal (London, Ontario / John Paul II Catholic) and All-American
Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) ranks 10th in the NCAA after a fourth-place finish at the JDL Fast Track Invitational held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina earlier this month. Georgetown clocked a time of 9:36.94.
White will also be competing in the 800-meter run. He ran 1:46.59 at the 112th NYRR Millrose Games three weeks ago in New York City and is currently fourth in the NCAA in that event.
"Qualifying for any NCAA Championship is extremely difficult, but indoors takes that up a notch," Assistant Track & Field Coach
Brandon Bonsey said. "It's really tough to be a top-16 individual and a top-12 relay squad. I'm very proud of Joe and the DMR team. This will be Joe's fourth NCAA Indoor meet and the sixth-straight year the men's DMR has qualified. That type of consistency is exactly what we want our program to be about. We are very excited to race against the best the NCAA has to offer next week in Birmingham."
