WASHINGTON – Georgetown University track & field All-American
Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) was named the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year on Friday afternoon. White is the first men's athlete in program history to win this award.
The honor comes after White posted a time of 1:46.59 in the 800-meter run at the prestigious NYRR Millrose Games in New York City earlier this month. His time is currently ranked fourth nationally in that event. He also ran the 1,200-meter leg of the distance medley relay (DMR) at the JDL Fast Track Invitational three weeks ago that is ranked 10th in the NCAA this season.
"We are very excited for Joe to be the first person in program history to win this award," Assistant Track & Field Coach
Brandon Bonsey said. "It means a lot that the other coaches in the region recognized the season that Joe has had. Now he needs to finish off this season on a high note at the NCAA Championships."
The men's squad has qualified for two events at the NCAA Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Alabama Birmingham, starting on Friday, March 8. White will be running in the DMR and also in the 800-meter run.
