WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming & diving teams had a league-high 24 student-athletes earn All-BIG EAST honors, as announced by the conference office. Overall, the Hoyas had 13 women earn all-conference recognition in 17 events, while the men's squad saw 11 student-athletes earn accolades in 32 events.
The All-BIG EAST squad is comprised of swimmers and divers who finished in the top three in any individual or relay event at the BIG EAST Championships. In all, 47 women and 42 men were recognized.
Leading the way for the Hoyas was sophomore
Drew Carbone (Chelmsford, Mass. / Central Catholic), who was named the Male Most Outstanding Swimmer at last week's BIG EAST Championships. He earned All-BIG EAST honors in seven different events, including four in which he won gold medals.
Jacob Kohlhoff (Tega Clay, N.C. / Fort Mill) was all-conference in five events, while
Michael Wheeler (Lafayette, Calif. / Campolindo) earned four selections.
On the women's side, the 13 All-BIG EAST selections tied with Villanova for the most in the conference. Four Hoyas earned multiple nods, led by
Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) who earned silver medals in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle races.
The Georgetown men finished second at the 2019 BIG EAST Championships, while the women placed third. The Hoyas won six gold medals overall and set 15 program records.
