WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team fell to Seton Hall 4-3 on Friday afternoon in a BIG EAST matchup. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play while the Pirates improve to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST.
In doubles, the Hoyas picked up an early lead as
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) and partner
Anna Short (Birmingham, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood) defeated the Pirates in a commanding 6-1 victory at No. 3. Seton Hall tallied the next two matches at No. 1 and No. 2 and the Pirates clinched the doubles point.
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) tied the contest with a win in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 against Minja Gligic. The Hoyas and Pirates continued to trade team points as Anicka Fajnorova defeated
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 and
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) tallied her seventh win this season with a come from behind victory over her opponent 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. With the win, Goodson improves to 3-0 in BIG EAST play and 7-1 overall.
The Pirates broke the two all tie as Melody Taal defeated De Santis in three sets at No. 3 and clinched the match at No. 5 as Mekeila Erspamer defeated Short 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5
Cecilia Lynham (Chevy Chase, Md. / Holton Arms School) picked up the final point of the day defeating her opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Hoyas will travel to Florida for a two game road swing and will face off against Barry University and Lynn University. The first matchup is scheduled for Sunday, March 3 at 12:30 p.m. against Barry. The match will be held at the Buccaneer Tennis Center in Miami Shores.
