WASHINGTON – A pair of Hoyas were called up to the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team, a 24-player roster for the 2019 Thorns Spring Invitational where the USA will face Reign FC, Portland Thorns FC and the Chicago Red Stars in the four-team NWSL pre-season competition. From the Georgetown women's soccer team, juniors Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) and Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) were called up.
WNT Head Coach B.J. Snow named a roster that features 21 collegiate players, two players currently playing professionally in Europe, and one U.S. Soccer Development Academy player.
"This is a great honor for both Meaghan and Paula," said Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan. "They certainly have earned this opportunity with their performances over the last 12 months and are looking forward to working with the WNT staff and teammates. Everybody here is very proud and excited for them."
Nally, one of eight defenders on the team, anchored a Hoya defense that allowed just 10 goals on the season and 199 total shots from GU's opponents in 25 games. The junior tallied nine points on the year from three goals and three assists. She was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year as well as a United Soccer Coaches Scholar First Team-All American and All-East Region First Team.
Last year, Nally was called up to the U-19 national team.
Germino-Watnick is one of eight forwards called up after ranking third on the squad in 2018 with 22 points from eight goals and six assists. The junior took 67 shots on the season and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team.
