WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's lightweight rowing team began its spring season on Saturday as it competed against programs from Delaware and Princeton on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey. Overall, the men posted a pair of victories against Delaware and one win against Princeton on the day.
The action began with races against Delaware. The first varsity crews were the first to hit the water and Georgetown came away with the victory against the Blue Hens in a time of 6:08.9. The winning boat was comprised of
Ryan Zuccala (Orchard Park, N.Y.) as the coxswain,
Olivier Malle (New York, N.Y.) at stroke followed by Joseph Cecil (Alpharetta, Ga.),
Ryan Walter (Williamsville, N.Y.), Charlie Koontz (Ridgewood, N.J.),
Artym Hayda (Providence, R.I.),
John Dolan (Wilmette, Ill.), Hector Formosa-Murias (Key Biscayne, Fla.) and Kiefer Meuller (Rye, N.Y.).The Hoyas were also able to secure a win in the second varsity race coming across the line at 6:24.8. In the third varsity race, the Blue & Gray posted a third-place finish recording a time of just under seven minutes at 6:59.9.
Against Princeton, the third varsity crews led things off and the Hoyas finished in second place. In the second varsity race, Georgetown posted its lone victory against the Tigers finishing three seconds ahead in a time of 6:35.9. The last event of the day featured the two first varsity squads and the Blue & Gray was edged slightly by Princeton.
Following Saturday's race, the Hoyas will return to Princeton on Saturday, March 30 as the heavyweights open their spring season at the Princeton Annual Scrimmage. The lightweights return on Saturday, April 6 as they compete against Yale.
