Bennett Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

WASHINGTON – Senior Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md. / Northern) of the Georgetown University softball team (9-22, 2-1 BIG EAST) was honored as the BIG EAST Player of the Week, announced Monday by the office. The designated player contributed to GU's 2-1 winning record over the weekend in the BIG EAST opening weekend hosting the league's pre-season favorite Creighton at Nats Youth Academy.

The honor marks Bennett's first recognition by the league this season and fourth for the team.

Bennett took advantage of her opportunities against Creighton as the designated player. In four at-bats, Bennett connected on three home runs, which tied for the most in the league over the weekend. She reached a base in eight out of nine plate appearances. Her batting average of .750 was tied for the best in the BIG EAST, while her slugging percentage (3.000) and on-base percentage (.889) topped the conference. She also tallied four RBIs and scored three runs for the Hoyas.

The Blue & Gray will hit the road for a BIG EAST matchup against St. John's in Queens, New York. The three-game series will begin on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader beginning at noon and one game on Sunday at noon. Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
