ETSU Tops Georgetown Baseball

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team fell to East Tennessee State University 11-1 on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee. With the loss the Hoyas drop to 6-21 on the year while ETSU moves to 21-5.
 
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk), Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) and James Gabor (Wyndmoor, Pa. / William Penn Charter School) led the Hoyas with two hits apiece. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) also had a double and an RBI.  
 
Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla. / Venice) started and went just 2.0 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk. Miller Freeman (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) set a career high with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief. Chase Walter (Winston-Salem, N.C. / Forsyth Country Day School) had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning while Jacob Grzebinski (Bellaire, Texas / Emery Weiner) also fired a scoreless inning with a strikeout.
 
ETSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and another in the second.
 
Georgetown got on the board in the top of the third. Willis and Gabor both singled, sandwiching a sacrifice bunt by Tony Barreca (Long Grove, Iowa / North Scott) to put runners on the corners with one out. Ruedisili drove in Willis with a sacrifice fly to center, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
 
The Buccaneers answered with four runs in the bottom of the third to break the game open. They tacked on another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to provide the final score, 11-1.
 
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
