PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Georgetown University baseball team continues its spring break trip this week with five games in six days at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Hoyas will match up against Mount St. Mary's, Western Michigan, Ball State, Kansas and Saint Joseph's. Live stats for all five games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
Jeremiah Burke (Delmar, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central / La Salle Institute) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, recognizing his efforts on Friday against Sacred Heart. Making his third start of the season, Burke fired 6.2 shutout innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts. He allowed only two hits and one walk. He did not allow a base runner until an error in the fifth inning and did not allow a hit until the sixth.
The Hoyas went 2-2 last week, defeating George Washington 14-4 and Sacred Heart 11-0 and reaching double figures in hits in all four games.
Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) hit .533 (8 for 15) in his first four career games.
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) batted .500 (10 for 20) with a home run, three triples and two doubles.
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) had seven hits, six of which went for extra bases including a home run, triple and four doubles. He scored nine runs and drove in seven.
For the season,
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) leads the Hoyas with a .381 (16 for 42) batting average and has eight RBIs.
Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) and
Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) are both hitting .333 on the year while
Ryan M. Davis is hitting at a .325 (13 for 40) clip with a home run, three triples and four doubles. Ruedisili is also hitting .300 (9 for 30) with team highs of two home runs, five doubles and nine RBIs. Eight of his nine hits have gone for extra bases and he has a .733 slugging percentage.
Mount St. Mary's – Tuesday, March 5 (5 p.m.)
Mount St. Mary's enters Tuesday's matchup with a 3-4 overall record. The Mountaineers defeated Villanova 19-16 on Sunday in Florida, before falling to St. Bonaventure 6-2 on Monday. Myles Nicholson leads the offense with a .571 (12 for 21) batting average, 12 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. He is tied with Patrick Causa for the team lead with seven RBIs. Causa is hitting .421 (8 for 19).
Western Michigan – Wednesday, March 6 (noon)
Western Michigan is currently 1-8 on the season and will play a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure and Villanova on Tuesday before Wednesday's matchup. Logan Hudson is leading the Broncs with a .500 (8 for 16) batting average and 12 RBIs. He is one of four players in the lineup who have hit two home runs. Blake Dunne is batting at a .400 (16 for 40) clip.
Ball State – Friday, March 8 (10 a.m.)
Ball State enters the week with a 5-6 overall record after falling to Charleston Southern 12-4 on Monday. The Cardinals, who play at UCF on Wednesday, swept a pair of games from Notre Dame in Charleston on Saturday and Sunday. Noah Navarro leads the offense with a .333 (14 for 42) batting average and has one of Ball State's two home runs. Ross Messina has team highs of four doubles and nine RBIs.
Kansas – Saturday, March 9 (5 p.m.)
Kansas is 8-3 on the year and has won four straight including a three-game sweep of Northern Illinois. The Jayhawks will take on Saint Joseph's on Friday in Florida for Saturday's contest. Jaxx Groshans is batting .417 (15 for 36) with six home runs and 14 RBIs to lead the offense. Benjamin Sems has 10 RBIs and is hitting .310 (13 for 42).
Saint Joseph's – Sunday, March 10 (10 a.m.)
Saint Joseph's is currently 2-6 on the season and will play Kansas and Ball State over the weekend before facing the Hoyas on Sunday. James McConnon is hitting at a .394 (13 for 33) clip and is tied for the team lead with eight RBIs. Brandon Hueth is batting .343 (12 for 35) with team highs of 11 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
