WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University men's tennis team fell to the University of Texas, Arlington 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon to wrap up the Hoyas' Florida road swing. With the loss, GU slips to 3-9 and the Mavericks improve to 7-3 on the season.
In doubles, the Mavericks clinched the early team point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) and
Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) were down 5-2 to their opponents at No. 2 when the doubles point was earned and the match went unfinished.
In singles,
Andrew Rozanov (London, England / Westminster) tallied the first Hoya point, defeating Miguel Cabrera in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4. Rozanov finished 2-1 in Florida and improves to 7-5 this season.
The Mavericks went on to clinch the match with three consecutive wins and
Luke Ross (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) notched the final team point for the Hoyas at No. 6, defeating Sansidh Kommaraju 6-2, 6-3.
The matchup against UT, Arlington ends the Hoyas' visit to the Sunshine State. GU will return to the courts on Sunday, March 24 to face off against Navy in Annapolis, Maryland. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
