Men’s DMR Finishes Third; Joe White Advances to 800-Meter Finals at NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the Georgetown University men's track & field team competed in day one of the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. The championship meet, hosted by the University of Alabama Birmingham at the Birmingham CrossPlex, featured a showcase of the fastest collegiate runners in the country. The Hoyas competed in the men's 800-meter preliminary round as well as the men's distance medley relay (DMR) finals.

The men's DMR team comprised of Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I. / La Salle Academy) on the 1,200-meter leg, Lawrence Leake (Huntington, N.Y. / Huntington) on the 400-meter leg, Ruach Padhal (London, Ontario / John Paul II Catholic) on the 800-meter leg and All American Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) anchoring on the 1,600-meter leg finished in third place right behind Notre Dame and Stanford. Wareham fought hard in the final stretch of the 1,600-meter leg to move up six spots en route to the top-three finish splitting an impressive 3:57.58. Georgetown posted an overall time of 9:33.06, which is a season's best and cracks the top ten in program history.

All-American Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) represented Georgetown in the men's 800-meter run and advanced to the final round after posting a second-place finish in the second heat with a time of 1:49.23. White ran a very tactical race running with the middle of the pack through the first three laps before making his move along the back straightaway of the final lap. Down the stretch, he was able to pass runners from Duke and New Mexico to solidify his spot in the finals.

White will return to action for the men's 800-meter finals beginning on Saturday at 6:40 p.m. ET. Coverage of day two will be streamed live on ESPN3.
