WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior standouts
Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and
Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) were both named winners of the BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships, Presented by Sunkist. The pair will receive $2,000 each toward graduate studies. Twenty student-athletes (one male and one female from each of the BIG EAST's 10 member institutions) were named as BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete award winners.
Bucaro, an economics major in the College holds a cumulative 3.075 GPA. A three-time All-BIG EAST selection, he garnered USILA Honorable All-America honors as a junior and was a Tewaaraton Award Nominee as one of the best players in collegiate lacrosse. Bucaro was named All-BIG EAST First Team as a junior and sophomore, as well as All-BIG EAST Second Team while earning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors in 2016.
Bucaro currently lead the BIG EAST in scoring with 62 points on 41 goals with 21 assists, all career highs. He has been named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week three times, the most of any player. He ranks fourth in the NCAA in goals per game and eighth in points per game. With his four-point performance against No. 2 Loyola Maryland, Bucaro became just the second player in program history to amass 200 career points. He ranks second all-time at Georgetown in points (201), third in goals (133) and seventh in assists (68).
Farrell is a government major at Georgetown and carries a 3.422 GPA. The senior was unanimously selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and received the only unanimous vote to be on the All-BIG EAST First Team. She was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and earned the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament. Farrell earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Regional First Team and was named a First Team Academic All-American. Additionally, she was named a Class of 2019 Honda Sport Award for Soccer finalist and a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer. She is the first player program history, and only the second player in school history, to be named a finalist.
Farrell led the Hoyas in her last season on the Hilltop with 39 points from 18 goals and three assists. She is tied for first at Georgetown with most goals in a single season (18) and finished second in the country in game-winning goals (8), third in total goals (18) and fourth in total points (39). She is a part of the most successful team in program history, making two appearances to the College Cup and winning three-straight BIG EAST Championship titles.
