WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated William & Mary in a come-from-behind victory on Tuesday afternoon in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Andrew Rozanov (London, England / Westminster) clinched the win for the Blue & Gray after the Tribe jumped out to an overall 3-1 lead. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 4-10 and the Tribe slips to 3-13.
In doubles action, the Hoyas started the match with a win by default at No. 3 due to a short Tribe bench. William & Mary came out strong however and picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 over the duos of
Michael Chen (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) and
Charlie Sharton (Wayland, Mass. / Wayland) and
Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif. / San Marino) and
Rohan Kamdar (Singapore / Anglo Chinese School), respectively to secure the doubles point.
In singles, the Hoyas tallied their first team point with a win by default at No. 6, but the Tribe battled to win two-straight matches at No. 1 and No. 3. With the Blue & Gray trailing 3-1 overall, Sharton took down Chen Ruo in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and Chen defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2.
At a three all tie, Rozanov, who holds a singles record of 9-5 this spring, clinched the team win with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Oren Vasser.
GU will play its last BIG EAST contest against Villanova on Sunday, April 7. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
