WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team fell to the #1-seeded Xavier Musketeers 4-1 on Saturday morning in the BIG EAST quarterfinals. Xavier clinched the doubles point on Friday and picked up the win on Saturday morning after the match was postponed due to weather.
In doubles, the senior duo of
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and
Sydney Goodson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley High School) was defeated by Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas 6-2 at No. 1 while
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) and partner
Anna Short (Birmingham, Mich. / Cranbrook Kingswood) were edged 6-4 at No. 3 by the Musketeers. The third match saw no winner as the contest did not finish.
On Saturday morning, Nakagawa tallied the lone Hoya point of the contest with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 against Rachael Reichenbach. Xavier notched wins at No. 5 and No. 3 and clinched the match at No. 1 as Kyle defeated
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) 6-3, 7-5.
The Hoyas finish the season with a 4-16 record and a BIG EAST conference record of 1-6.
