WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's lightweight rowing team returned to Philadelphia on Saturday for a pair of races against Temple. The Hoyas sent two varsity boats to take on the Owls on the Schuylkill River and were able to pick up victories in both races.
The first varsity crews took to the river first and the Hoyas led from start to finish in the head-to-head matchup, winning by nearly 11 seconds in a time of 6:19.85. In the A boat,
Ryan Zuccala (Orchard Park, N.Y.) served as coxswain, with
Olivier Malle (New York, N.Y.) at stroke, followed by
Joe Cecil (Alpharetta, Ga.),
Ryan Walter (Williamsville, N.Y.),
Liam Lafferty (Orinda, Calif.),
Artym Hayda (Providence, R.I.),
Tommy Ruggles (Weston, Mass.),
Reid Noch (Naples, Fla.) and
John Dailey (Rye, N.Y.).
In the second varsity race, the Blue & Gray continued its winning ways as the men powered their way down the 2,000-meter course to cross the line first ahead of Temple with a mark of 6:29.89, besting the Owls by 27 seconds. Georgetown's B boat consisted of
Hannah Elwell (Worcester, Mass.) at coxswain, followed by
Mark Laforce (Redwood City, Calif.) at stroke,
Ryan Teetsel (Phoenix, Ariz.),
William Mangan (Buffalo, N.Y.),
Sean Haggerty (New York, N.Y.),
Jonathan Menendez (Miami Lakes, Fla.),
Peter Digiovanni (Milton, Mass.),

The Hoyas return to the water on Saturday, May 4 as the heavyweights travel back to Philadelphia for races against Penn and Cornell. The lightweights will take a short breather before heading up north to Worcester, Massachusetts for the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 19.
