WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University men's tennis team (5-10, 2-2 BIG EAST) won three-straight singles matches at Villanova (9-10, 1-4 BIG EAST) on Sunday to clinch the come-from-behind victory 4-3. With the overall score tied at three,
Mark Militzer (Charleston, S.C. / Connections Academy) defeated Tommy Mulfur 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 to secure the Hoyas' second BIG EAST conference win.
In doubles, GU got out to an early lead as the duo of
Luke Ross (Sewickley, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) and
Ian Witmer (North Palm Beach, Fla. / The Benjamin School) defeated their opponents 6-3 at No. 3 while partners
Connor Lee (San Marino, Calif. / San Marino) and
Rohan Kamdar (Singapore / Anglo Chinese School) secured the doubles point at No. 2 with a 6-5 win.
Villanova rallied early and won three-straight matches in singles to put the Cats up 3-1. With the match on the line, Kamdar defeated Tyler Roth in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 while Ross took down Charlie Schuls at 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5.
At three-all, Militzer took the court against Mulfur and clinched the match for the Hoyas in three sets, after going down in the first 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
GU will play its final match of the 2018-19 campaign against Morgan State on Saturday, April 13. The match is slated for 9 a.m. at Georgetown Visitation. Prior to the match, the team's two seniors,
Michael Chen and
Will Sharton, will be honored in a senior day ceremony.
